A group of retailers and businesses in the market town of Bawtry near Doncaster, South Yorkshire continue their efforts to promote their town as they pledge their support to ‘Small Business Saturday’ which takes place on Saturday 3rd December.

Businesses across the town which are members of Bawtry Retail Association (BRA) will recognise the annual event with many businesses also being members of the Federation of Small Businesses and the local Chamber of Commerce both of whom support the initiative.

“Bawtry is a destination waiting to be discovered and enjoys a host of small businesses who work autonomously but also together to achieve even greater aspirations,” said Ross Jarvie Chair Bawtry Retail Association. “Bawtry has evolved from a historic market town to a place that’s packed with high quality shops, designer fashion, art galleries, stylish bars and fantastic individual restaurants. By day, shoppers and workers mingle with those going about their daily business with butchers, florists, hairdressers & beauticians, estate agents and a host of independent specialist retailers bringing a bustle to the streets. By night, the town welcomes couples, families and friends for a few drinks, a delicious meal or perhaps a private celebration”.

In its fourth year the aim of the day is to support Britain’s 5 million small businesses as they encourage consumers to visit local retailers and enjoy a special and unique Christmas shopping experience rather than a mass manufactured high street one.

“This year’s Small Business Saturday follows hot on the heels of our most successful Christmas event ever which saw thousands of visitors flock to the town for a host of Christmas stalls and activities including the legendary unveiling of the Womack’s Christmas window,” said Ross. “We look forward to the continued support of Bawtry and Doncaster citizens, as well as our visitors that we welcome from across the county and beyond.”

In 2015, £623m was spent with small businesses on Small Business Saturday, an increase of  24% on 2014.

Bawtry Retail Association (BRA) is a member organisation of businesses and retailers in the town and currently has over 60 members.  They work together to promote the town, attract visitors and business investment and host a calendar of events throughout the year.
