Well – it’s finally happened! The Bawtry Heritage Group is now crowdfunding at www.spacehive.com/bawtryflushedwithsuccess
Although we have got off to a reasonable start, to date, the level of community support has been disappointing so please consider giving the project your support if you want it to happen. A big ‘thank you’ to all those that have already supported the project – we have, at least, reached a milestone of achieving the first £1k.
This is a real, and probably our only, opportunity to deliver this project which will be a valuable asset for the town and its community. It will improve the ‘gateway’ image of the town, provide a community hub facility, facilitate the dissemination of information on the history and heritage, help enhance visitor numbers and make our town a more inclusive place for all. However, it will only happen with your Help and Support – so, if you have not already done so, please consider making a pledge or donation (no matter how much) so that we can achieve our financial target. Some of you may have found the Spacehive site somewhat confusing with its explanation of the project. To confirm the main purpose of the current funding appeal is to raise the ‘third party contribution’ needed for us to comply with the grant body requirements and enable the complete build to be funded. We are working extremely hard to deliver this project and are very hopeful that the grant will be forthcoming. However, if in the event that proves not to be the case, then donors may request the return of their donations. Otherwise the monies raised would go into a general project fund and a ‘phased’ build approach may be adopted.
Support doesn’t have to be just financial but could include offers of materials, equipment and/or voluntary labour for the build. Does anyone fancy being part of a voluntary team to clear the buildings? So far David Bodman has very kindly offered to provide the new upvc windows. Are you able to provide any materials or equipment? We would certainly welcome enhanced membership for our group and are looking for a Treasurer if anyone is interested.
If anyone would prefer to just donate rather than pledge on the Spacehive site, then this is also possible. Donations can be by way of cash, cheque or bank transfer. A “Proud Sponsor of BHG” widow sticker scheme for businesses in the town is being introduced which will, hopefully, encourage support from that sector of the community.
We hope to organise two community fundraising events in the town in October for the whole family. A ‘themed’ games event on Sunday 3 October and a ‘fun’ Halloween event on Sunday 31 October – so please make a note in your diaries, look out for further information, and try to come along on the days.
