Bawtry business putting the heart back into fundraising

As the importance of keeping fit and healthy this Winter to fight the pandemic remains a high priority for us all a duo of Bawtry businesses have joined together to organise a charity ‘marathon’ running challenge in a safe, controlled environment.

Designer fashion boutique Robinsons and Bawtry Gym are hosting the event to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, a charity which like many others relies entirely on donations and that has seen a marked dip during the pandemic as many events have been cancelled.

“British Heart Foundation does vital work and research that affects us all and we have thought about ways that we can support them whilst keeping all participants safe,” said Russell Jones of Robinsons “This is a great way to encourage people to take good care of themselves, both physically and mentally, and to raise funds and awareness for this charity.”

Teams of up to 26 people can take part and each team will collectively run the 26 miles to be run on one of the four treadmills at Bawtry Gym – so the more team members the less miles to run or jog! You can register your own team or you can take part as a member of one of the 4 teams already registered by Robinsons, Bawtry Natural Health, Bawtry Retail Association & the BHF.   All miles can be run in your own time but need to be booked, completed & logged at Bawtry Gym between 12th and 16th November which spans World Kindness Day on 13th November. A minimum sponsorship or donation of £10 per mile is requested by all participants.

“This is turning out to be a very tough year for everyone in so many different ways and the team at Bawtry Gym have worked very hard to ensure the gym is Covid-19 secure to enable people to exercise safely and reap the physical and mental benefits that this brings,” said Will Robinson, Owner, Bawtry Gym. “Since gyms re-opened over 22 million visits have been made and just 78 confirmed cases of Covid-19 among those visitors. Coupled with our limited numbers and increased safety measures, visitors can be reassured as to their safety when they are with us.”

A £250 Robinsons voucher will be presented to the person who raises the most amount of money for the BHF, and the team that raises the most money together will enjoy a 3 month complimentary membership at Bawtry Gym for each team member.

“Necessity is the mother of all invention and it’s great to see local business joining force and being innovative when all of our fundraising schedule has been lost this year with millions of pounds of revenue being missed out on,” said Brian Swift, representative for the Bawtry and Doncaster branch of British Heart Foundation. “Our thanks go to those who are making it possible, and for those that are giving up their time to participate; it truly is appreciated.”
